Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior official commented the attack rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
